Hi everyone,

I have been keeping fish for around 8 months now and I currently have a 90l tank.

At the moment I have mainly guppies in there, 2 shrimps and a plec.

My mum also wants a tank and I have said she can have my fish as I would like to try keeping different ones.

What fish would be suitable for a 90l aquarium? I am wanting to keep something a bit bigger than guppies etc but I am unsure of what is best to keep in there and what species would go well together?

My local garage has the same tank as me and they have some silver dollars in there, but tbh when I saw the tank yesterday they all look a bit over crowded as there are lots of other fish and a huge plec in there!

Anyway, thank you in advance for any advice :)

Hiya, there are a good bit of fish suitable to that size tank. (For my own reference, and others that have trouble converting..mr google says this is about 24g

It's hard to just list some fish off to you, as we don't know what you like. A good thing to do is go to the LFS and write down the fish that interest you, then come back here and we can try to make something out of that list.

Silver dollars get too big for this tank, unfortunately. Also they're little lawnmowers..not sure if you want a planted tank or not.

Is your water soft or hard? Will you be viewing the tank from far away or close up? Any specific colors?

Thanks for the reply :)

I love the silver dollars, but like I said - they had 5 in the same tank as mine and they looked cramped!!

To be honest I just wanted some fish that are a bit bigger than guppies, plus my guppies just go at anything else in the tank. I had a beautiful Siamese Fighting Fish and they literally nipped all his fins and I had to have him in his own tank!

I think the water around here is soft.

I am open to idea regarding the fish - I just fancy a change! :)

Hmm..for your centerpiece fish, what about peacock gudgeons?

Here are pics of mine to see if you like them.

HERE is some information on them, and it has more pics :D

Nice colours!!

I like those!

I would love to have another Siamese Fighting Fis too :)

Bad idea to have both, as gudgeons are quite colorful. Bettas usually don't appreciate other fish that are colorful or have flowy tails.

So, perhaps a betta and cory tank? :)

I'm surprised that your guppies attack your Betta! In my community tank I have a red Betta with a couple of Guppies & the Guppies are terrified of him! I know all Betta's have different personalities though. One of my tanks is a similar size to yours & I have plecs, Cory's, a red tailed black shark, a couple of guppies & plates & a school of Neons. It's a good mix & in my opinion if you can make your tank ornaments & plants look good then any fish will look good in there :)

I have a tank the same size as yours with a pair of Blue rams, cardinal tetras and golden pencilfish, with a few Malaysian trumpet snails for cleanup. I'm hoping to switch them out for some ottos instead, that way I have a semi south american biotope (semi because the plants aren't all south american).
Off the top of my head some species that may suit are dwarf or honey gouramis, bettas, rams or some of the other dwarf cichlids, pencilfish, hatchetfish, some killifish, some cories, ottos, kuhli loaches, quite a few species of tetras, some barbs, Bristlenoses, livebearers and the list goes on.
Knowing your pH as well as whether you are having live plants, sand or gravel substrate etc will help narrow down some ideal species for you.
