1) Will 2 x Tetratec EX1200 be enough filtration for an 800 litre tank?

2) People talk of two Fluval FX5's but that sounds like serious overkill. If not the two Tetratec's then will one FX5 do?

3) I've also heard that the hose supplied with the FX5 is not enough to cope with a 30 inch tall tank, is this true?

Fx5 is rated for 400gallons so a 200 gallon tank should be ok
Saying that though will depend on stocking levels.

I currently run a FX5 on my 180g with crystal clear water.
My tank is not heavy stocked though as imwaiting on my supplier to get a few fish in for me

So 2 would be overkill but can never have too much filration

Hose should be enough as my tank is 24" and when done installing i had 24" hose left
My intake and return around 4' from each other.

Fx5 best filter i ever bought and i tried a few.

Sounds like a nice tank :)

I have a 135 gallon and I run 2 FX5s on that - I think its always best to have 2 filters running especially on a big tank - It also helps stop you getting dead spots in the tank and too much filtration is never a bad thing. Not sure of your tank plans but generally in a bigger tank you end up with bigger fish and over filtering in that situation is always a good thing.

I would recommend the FX5 because of how simple it is to get up and running and the simple media baskets mean you can put what ever you want in it where as some others I have had have had it made into compartments. My tank is 24 inches tall and I have enough with a little surplus not sure if it would reach an extra 6 inches or not? But when you buy the pipes you get one length that you cut in the middle and the rubber attachments that go on the top of the filter are on each end so you could get two sets - they cost £20 each roughly so not too bad - also dont buy the fluval media you can cut the sponges from pond foam (not floss) and the bio balls you can get any of the ceramic or plastic ones - though I like to use the fluval foam sponges for ease.

The tank won't be heavily stocked. I have three large clown loaches (and two runts) but I'm more likely to use the tank for large shoals of small fish than a small number of large ones. I'm tending towards one FX5 but also using my existing Fluval 305 to fill in the gaps.

Ya adding a second filter wont hurt. Clown loaches are one of my favorite fish and will love the big tank.
Curently i have 2 clowns ..lost 3 to ich few weeks ago :(

Large shoal of rainbows be nice in there.
Good luck choosing fish for it!!!

Have a look at the all pond solutions externals, im running one and it's great!
