Recently, I sent an email to the owner of http://www.dartfordaquatics.co.uk/ (The Tropical Fish Shop) in question of how much it would cost me if I purchased all my primary stock from their website. Their response shocked me.

The stock I asked them to price was:
12 Cardinal Tetras
6 Peppered Corys
A pair of Dwarf Gouramis
1 Bristlenosed Plec

Most of these are fairly common fish and are usually not too expensive. The quote I was given was the sum of £70!

No way would I pay so much for 21 common fish, even of the best quality possible. I was told this store is generously priced and truthfully I'm in shock!

that is well OTT!!
i would expect that to cost about £40

postage for fish seems to cost a fortune though

From going around trop. fish shops in London, here is what I would expect to pay
£18 -12 Cardinal Tetras
£12 -6 Peppered Corys
£6 -A pair of Dwarf Gouramis
£3.50-1 Bristlenosed Plec

There's no way of me paying £70. I thought it was a typo when I read it!

I'm looking to spend no more than £50 on them.

Here is the price broken down:

12 x Cardinal Tetra £27.00
6 x Peppered Corydora £17.70
2 x Dwarf Gourami £6.80
1 x Bristlenosed Plec £2.55

Delivery £15.95

I've been offered 5% off, which makes it £66.50

From the prices in the southwest, i would be paying roughly

12 x Cardinal Tetra £24.00
6 x Peppered Corydora £10
2 x Dwarf Gourami £7-8
1 x Bristlenosed Plec £3-4

so around £45.

Im not sure how it equates to pounds but for good quality Cardinals in the US your looking at 2.50-3 Dollars each. Gouramis can be obtained super cheap as low as 1.99ea around here but from some reason Albino B/Ns fetch 20 dollars

Would be £51.50 at my workplace (so £67.45 with the added delivery charge)

I think I'm going to go check out some garden centres, £66 still seems too much.

I might just buy from my shocking LFS and hope I can save the fish...

Your prices appear similar to everyone else who has posted except you've then got to add postage which bumps up the price and thus makes it unaffordable for you...
