That is a bummer that it went blind - but you are right, they are very adaptable with hindered sight.

No inflammation or swelling or redness, just a cataract. Acting all fine too, if anything a bit more skittish.

I took a look close and noted a couple others have eye damage, found another with one of my CW028 s
But is very slight.

My vals have nearly all gone by now, but I see some regrowth starting on the stumps on some so ill wait for them to come back full force

Bur ive gone and melted my water sprite. Leave it to me to kill most that plant off lol floating some remaining leaves.

Fish have been all added back by this evening. They've already trashed the sand like I expected, but theyre sooooooo happy to be back, my pleco has finally eaten for the first time since the incident!
Going to keep the bag of carbon (fresh brand new carbon refilled) in the tank for a bit just to play it safe, but im thinking so far all is good.

I owe it to them to get their home back in good shape, only way to do this is to move forward. I want to see them happy and healthy again.
The fish tanks are great for my mental health when they're in top shape, I struggle with depression and anxiety, so their care helps greatly for this.

But when stuff like this happens, it gets hard, have to take it one day at a time. While the fish help my mental state, making sure they have a good happy home is also my priority so I can benefit them more.

But this disaster is one of them times where you really feel the weight of the hobby.

So I dont know if the problems are just showing up as time goes on or if its just the affected fish have been the more skittish ones so finally seeing them, but a good deal of the fish in my 55 are blind or half blind.

One weitzmani is totally blind.

Stats:
2 weitzmani cories
1 cw028 corydoras
4 cherry barbs
2 trilineatus cories

All blind or half blind. Im watching the barbs because they can't see the food and 2 ive noticed with white pupils in both eyes have not eaten, so if they don't adapt I will have to kindly put them down so they don't suffer. The cories don't seem bothered.

Finding more. One of the babies I raised myself, Littlefoot, is blind in one eye.

But my hoplos whiskers are growing back well already

So its definitely a problem showing up over time.

Majority of the fish are affected in either one or both eyes, have varying amounts of blindness.

Updated list of affected fish:
All 6 cherry barbs (2 are totally blind)
3 out of 4 of the weitzmani corydoras (1 totally blind)
3 trilineatus corydoras
2 CW028 corydoras

Video of the tank this evening.

So some good news, my two full blind cherry barbs i saw pecking the sand for food where they were hiding and I dropped some shrimp pellets there and they managed to eat. This is soooo good for them, I haven't seen those two eat since the blindness set in.

I was discussing the incident with this tank over on planet catfish and they mentioned seeing some cases where fish have gone blind in situations with chemicals and after time have regained their sight. Thats a good bit of hope, and one of my CW028 has one eye thats looking to be improving, so there's some good news.

wow, that is a pretty striking difference! it looks like based in the first image of the three you posted that the damage was on the cornea, as opposed to the lens, which is where cataracts normally develop (at least that is how I understand the definition of a cataract). In humans, the cornea turns over very quickly so it could very well be that it is not a permanent damage? one can hope.....
I know humans and fish share very few things in terms of biology, but one can speculate...
