55G Discus

Ya ive seen them in animal world and they were pretty bad quality and selling for $55.
I think im gunna go with april if she can ship to medicine hat. Shes got some very nice discus.
I found out that i will have about $430 saved at the end of summer.
and if the discus are small about 2-4" could i still have them in a 55g by them selves?
and can you quarantine them in there own tank with no gravel and stuff?

Yes should be fine in the 55g, although I would get them all similar sized (no more then an inch apart.) You should quarantine them bare bottom in their own tank yes.

Ok so how long do i quarantine them for?
Are there any tank mates i could have with them?

You don't have to quarantine your first group, only when you get more (it's inevitable .) Normally you want to quarantine for about 4 weeks total. 2 weeks by themselves, and then with an addition from your prior group. As long as all the fish are healthy they are safe to add to your group. I prefer to keep Discus by themselves, but Sterbai Corys, Rams, Cardinals and BN Plecos make good tank mates.

I found this breeder in medicine hat thats selling 2 for $25 . there pretty nice.
ill be going to check out some tanks sometime this week. Man i cant wait!!

And is it ok to have plecos in the tank or not because of the discus's slime coat?

Plecos need to have a really close eye kept on them. I would only do BN plecos.

i dont know if ill need april for discus. i found this guy that breeds grade A discus in medicine hat . hes got some nice discus and some wayne ng discus too.like reflection-D. So im going to check him out and his discus are a good price to really cheap. anyway. thats about it.
anyway i was wondering if i could keep my discus in my 30g with my 1 sev that im getting rid of. and my african cichlid and my jellybean parrots?like just until i get my new tank. or is not a good idea?

and i just went to go check out tanks and they have a 90g for 180$ but with no stuff but i think thats a pretty good deal.

That would leave you with 15 gallons. I don't know if I would keep them in there for very long, and it would depend on how many you have. I would think it's best to get your 50g and get your Discus once you set it up.

Yes, I think he posted a link on the Calgary Kijiji. I inquired about his Reflection-Ds but he never responded I think he has some real nice Discus for sale including the albinos. You would ideally have to keep the fish separate, as juvys need 100% daily water changes once or even twice a day when they are really small, and when small fry are with parents, the tank needs frequent smaller water changes.
