55 Gallon Stocking Ideas?

hey guys i have a 55 gallon fluval 305 hooked up
waiting for the fish to get bigger to hook up the 205 also
i have 75 pounds of white sand in it

1 salvini cichlid 1 inch rite now
1 jack dempsey 1 inch rite now

i want to add maybe a small catfish that grows to about 5 inches

what else should i add?

i know theres room for 1 more guy

Be careful with the JD and the EBJD as the EBJD can be a bit squishy compared to JDs. Might not be a problem at the moment but once they start growing just something to watch. I would say you are at the limit there with 3 medium sized CA cichlids. But as for catfish, you could look at most of the mid sized plecs, could probably manage some of the medium/large Synos in there but they need to be tough. The main concern is that they dont get too scared and hide all the time.

As for target/dither fish, if you wanted to keep it kind of biotope like stick with live bearers like swordtails and platties or a school of blind cave tetras. Or you have Tiger barbs and Giant danio along with other larger barbs from asia.

what about a single roseline barb shark thats bigger then all 3 fish

i know they need to be in a shoal.. do you think theyd get along?

the roseline is to fast i beleive for be bothered with

They need to be in schools of at least 5, its important in this tank to do this because with all those aggressive fish it will dart around looking for its school that isnt there which will majorly stress them. In your sig when you mention you have a 305 and a 205 ? Or are you getting a 205 in a little while?

I reckon you could probably do the 3 cichlids and 5 roselines in that tank as long as you run both filters and keep up on maintenance.

yes i have a 205 already.. once the fish get a good size then ill be adding the 205

in the tank how should i set the other filter up? the input valvle and out put valves on the same sides as the current filter?
or have an input and output on 1 side and input and output valve on the other?

Ah right I see, yeah sounds okay. I would put one filter at each end for the most surface agitation

question? should i put the output outside the water and let it flow inside the water? or the output under the water?

with it on the outside of the water the whole tank is being bubbled...i think to much bubbles?

I would put them under water but pointing up so they splash the surface and create current.

gotcha ever since ive done this with my filter my cichlids are more calmer
