5 Gal. Update Wih Pics

Just thought I would share a few newer pics if my wife's betta Apollo in his Fluval spec V. All the plants are live, there are some ghost shrimp in there with him too.

I love it, and he looks fantastic I wouldn't be so brave as to have an open lid though, but then mine is a jumper.

Love the choice of plants, it all goes so well with the substrate

What is that red plant?
 
I recommend that you get a lid as Bettas are very good at jumping.

Thanks, the large red plant is a tiger lotus bulb, the smaller ones are crimson temple plants, they're more green/yellow than red atm though. As for the lid I've tried to convince my wife to put it on, but she insists on keeping the bamboo growing out of the top. Maybe I will try to fabricate something to allow space at the left side for the bamboo but still cover most of the tank.

Good idea, cut a small corner off of the lid or something like that.

I've made a lid using crafter mesh and report folder binders that allows my bamboo to grow out the top. It's not the prettiest of things but it works. You just cut the craft mesh to size, surround it in binders, then cut a small hole where the bamboo is growing. I can get a picture of it if you'd like.

Definitely need a way to cover the tank. Bettas are jumpers and will jump with no warning.  Watch your bamboo.  I know you have the top completely out of the water but it doesn't do well long term with anything but the very bottom under water and can rot from the inside without you knowing until it starts looking really bad.  Love the lotus.  I want to get some for my tank but haven't yet.    Overall a very nice looking tank and Apollo seems like he enjoys it.
