Bettas do not usually rest on the tank floor.

This is absolutely unheard of. Some photos of the tank and fish would be helpful so we can sex them for him. How big are they? If they are tiny babies, this will NOT last. Do you see any swimming beside each other or following each other? This is the 'wait until I get a chance to shred you' stance. Better make sure he has LOTS of jars to separate them when they start getting nasty.

The words "Time Bomb" come to mind.

Having had males jump dividers and seen the damage done between 2 male Bettas......god knows what's going to errupt eventually in that tank

And who on earth sold him 14 Bettas and tank in one go???

Gotta agree there... if they are resting on the bottom etc. you have to wonder what's wrong with them. My suggestion is that he's gone and chucked 14 messy fish into a brand new tank and they all have ammonia poisoning, which is the only reason they haven't ripped each other to ribbons yet. He needs to separate the fish into gallon jars or plastic containers, change all of their water DAILY and fishless cycle that tank. Then, if he wants to keep the females in the tank he can, but the males need to be in separate tanks. You couldn't even put one male in there as males should not be kept with females.

ok he says he ask the lfs to order to his door so prob they crnt argue if he had gone and they were just on the florr go up swam into plants mess about and go hover on the floor thier all in the plants thier seeable and thier not following each other they swim indivual and im thinking how the hell this going to last iv told him of and he said ill see how it goes and if they all die ill go to the big lfs and get advice and i said join this forum he said he will look into it thebettas are quite beautfull i can tell two are male because the fins all long and flowing and u can see the spine type things on them im just very pi*sed off with him     and im saying can i buy your tank haha not the fish

he just fred them some shredded peas and were going bed post in my other topic poeple i wna get femal betta sn guppies :shout: :hyper: haha i will update

I'm not sure this is even possible at all... The only way I can think that 2 male bettas could be kept in the same tank together is if you had like a 150usg aquarium and they never see each other. If what you're saying is true, just tell your friend to expect a lot of mess to clean up if he's intending on keeping them together.

Been following this tank for the inevitable result, but this makes me wonder: It sounds like the tank may not have been cycled. Once in a while people post that they've ridiculous mixes they insist are stable, and it's almost always in uncycled tanks. My guess has always been that the water quality problems are to blame - they're too stressed to kill each other.

I've been interested to see what happens in these one of these cases after the cycle finishes, but the posters I've followed before either ended up losing or rehoming their fish, or stopped posting.
