Yeah, I agree with Corleone. That's what I've been thinking too as the behavior described (lethargy, resting on the tank floor, resting on plants, hovering around the filter for clean water) sounds like they are very stressed. Apparently the owner of the fish (not the OP) bought the fish at the same time as the tank. That's going from bad to worse - forget some cock-and-bull story about letting the tank run or pouring in some magic potion, no mention of cycling at all. hate to think what 5teady will do to that lot. lol

well here we go death strikes 4bettas are dead not floating but at bottom and not moveing n when u turn filter up they flow with the filter and the other 10 (im guessing females) are very unactive im just anoyed at him

ok he says he ask the lfs to order to his door so prob they crnt argue if he had gone and they were just on the florr go up swam into plants mess about and go hover on the floor thier all in the plants thier seeable and thier not following each other they swim indivual and im thinking how the hell this going to last iv told him of and he said ill see how it goes and if they all die ill go to the big lfs and get advice and i said join this forum he said he will look into it thebettas are quite beautfull i can tell two are male because the fins all long and flowing and u can see the spine type things on them im just very pi*sed off with him and im saying can i buy your tank haha not the fish

Seriously though, your friend? needs to take the remaining live fish back to the shop and start a fishless cycle in the tank (during which time he can research the fish he would like to keep).

aqua cycle does practically nothing to cycle a tank,

The uncycled tank will kill the fish long before the bettas even get a chance to turn on each other

ive just rung him and he said thier so pretty and seem fine stop moaning i said one these do die ur not getting any more fish without me beong thier and my advice and he said fine i said if one more dies im takeing all the males back

ok iv settled with him ill took all the bettas into empty jars and let him keep the 8female bettas im sure they are femlae because thier not as agressive and btw 2more died this morning the males are in jars and my sisters freind is comeing to pick them up my sister is a vet and her mate is she haveing them in a divided tank phew alls good and currently i have a 30l that being cycled for when i get guppies and females mself some where going to go into the 60l some in 30l then after week the 30l fish into 60l but his female in my 30l because its cycle hes cycleing his tank god so much work hes a ***
