OK hey again so I got a 40UK litre from my brother a couple of weeks ago so I got a goldfish from the pet store that looked ill to make better it's looking better and once it's fully better my uncle said I could put it in his pond so once that is all sorted I will be thoroughly cleaning it and then it will be empty. I now have an air pump so I'm one step closer to thinking of getting tropical but what could I have in the meantime? Any help will be really good thanks :)

I suggest nothing, Get a heater and a good filter. Cycle the tank and wait awhile, is best

I don't really understand, there is only one difference between a coldwater tank and a tropical and that is the heater.
Read up about fish in cycling, and don't put your fish in a pond until spring at the earliest!

Thanks, hopefully my brother will be coming to visit from London soon and I have asked for him to help tropical wise because he owns them himself so we will be going to a fish store that supplies everything so he will be able to show me which things would be best. At the moment though money is a huge issue but I've been saving up a lot recently when I can so hopefully I might be able to sort something out once everything is OK with the little guy so thanks again.

Never buy fish as charity buys.  You'll eventually end up with a lot of dead fish, especially if they're impulse buys or if you don't know much about fish.

I know a lot about fish (I've had them since I was 3) I read more info about them all the time. So I do know how to care for them. I love animals and I would rather have saved the fishy's life than it be dead and luckily it's much better now and anyway my whole family own them and my brother has had them his whole life aswell and he is in his 30's. He has a huge tank at the moment with two huge fish in, so with the help from everyone on here and through friends and family I know alot.
