Hey there, I'm not new to fish but this seemed like the most appropriate Forum to post this in.

Well I currently have a 37 gallon tall with 3 cichlids... Mbunas and a auratus? They were given to me by a friend withouth much notice.... I dont know much about cichlids though. But now they're rather large and unhappy. Im selling them to someone who has a larger wider tank.

Anyways... I dont know what to put in this tank now. I thought about Angelfish... But I already have some.

Also I dont want a community tank.

So my question is... What fish should I get for a 37gal tall?

I'll tell you my favorites but I'm sure most will disagree. I love the lively movement of small fish in a large display tank. My 45 tall, which is only 3 ft long but 2 ft high, has about 50 endlers in it and a half dozen corydoras habrosus. The endlers are like the one in my avatar and got to where they are from 3 pairs about a year ago. The habrosus are a dwarf cory that only gets a little over 1 inch long.
End result is lots of small lively fish with good color that make the tank alive with movement all the time.

Another idea along similar lines would be a large shoal of one type of tetra. Rummy Nose tetras come to mind as just today we were discussing how they form very tight schools a lot of the time. This can be particularly beautiful in a larger tank such as the one described.

~~waterdrop~~

I've already got like 30 or so Endlers... damn things never stop breeding! lol

This is actually my sisters tank...but since shes not very educated on fish.. I take care of it.. and she just gets to watch it while it "looks pretty"

She dosnt like Anglefish... personally if it was my tank.. I would get more Angelfish :p

Anyways... after talking to some cichlid experts.. I apparently have 2 male Metriaclima estherae, Red or Blue Zebra. And a female Melanochromis auratus. (im just copy pasting here lol) And apparently the males like lots of females.. So im probably going to chose one of the males to keep. And get rid of the Auratus. Then get lots of females for the remaining one.

But.. this is my sisters decision.. If she wants a different fish completley... I'll come back here to see more options ;)

hi there, you've said in the title that it's a 45 gal, then in the text that it's a 37 gal, can you give us the actual dimensions so we can be sure what you are working with?

Tall tanks don't generally do well with big fish who need lots of swimming space so you may be best stocking to smaller fish, from the dimensions we can give a rough idea of the biggest sized fish to look for.

Yeah.. sorry I need to edit that. I thought it was 45 then my sis came in while I was typing in and told me it was 37.

I measured it. and it is indeed a 37.

hehe, thankyou craiglist. I got someone to take the aggressive male cichlid. And A fellow crayfish breeder friend is takeing the others.

And I convinced my sister to put Angelfish in the tank! yes!
