Hi everyone.

I have a spare 35L tank and I need to make it look attractive to keep the girlfriend ok with having it as a second tank in the living room. Up until now I've been using it as a tank to grow on my Bristlenose fry, I had arranged for a friend to take these off me but the deal has fallen through so now it looks like I'll be keeping them. They are about an inch now and I have 3 of them.

I have been using Coral sand as a substrate as eventually I plan on adding one of the bristlenoses to my malawi setup, so thought this would get them used to the water parameters. However now I want to add some more stock and plants so will probably change the substrate to fit in with a look.

What fish could I add to this tank? I've even thought of having shrimp? Maybe a betta? I have no idea??? The bristlenoses I have are pretty rare so their well being is most important when selecting tank mates.

Anything that will be active with abit of colour and interesting to look at. Not used to keeping such a small tank so any help will be great :).

P.S
This is a image of the tank (taken from the web)

the best fish would be tetra such as neon, cardinals. a male fighter would be nice too, u wouldnt be able to have many fish though from the size of the tank, but 4 or 5 tetras would be the best fish

There are a lot of fish you could keep in a tank this size, if it were me I'd go for a shoal of small Tetra's, Rasbora's or Danio's, here's my set up from a few months ago with the same tank:

In it were 12 Celestial Pearl Danio's, they're quite expensive however but other suitable species I recommend:
Ember Tetra's, Boraras micros, Boraras merah, Boraras briggitae, Boraras maculatus, Boraras urophthalmoides and Danio erythromicron, there are a few other suitable species but stick to anything that grows no bigger than 25mm. You could keep shrimp also

I'd recommend removing the coral sand though and using normal play sand, the Bristlenose will be fine with it still, but you'll just have to be a bit more careful when acclimatizing them to the Malawi set up, as I'm sure you're aware, this kind of tank isn't suitable long term.

As for plants any members of the following genera: Cryptocoryne, Anubias, Microsorum, Vallis, Hygrophila and Echinodorus.

Thanks for some ideas. Would a Betta be ok with the young bristlenoses?
