My wife has a male 3 spot blue gourami and I was wondering are all 3 spots suppossed to be fully blue? I'm asking this cause his got a strip of red along the bottom of his anal fin thats seeable most of the time but when his colours go really dark (ie the spots really show) and his fins out this is 
VERY noticable almost a blood red (there's no fin damage, its obvious colouring), he is also kept with a female (very certain at least), thats slightly smaller (they get along like a house on fire, she often swims slightly behind and to the side is this normal?)

Sounds like you have got a nice pair. Mine are always at each others troats unless the breeding. 3spot aka Trichogastor. tricopterus come in many colours such as opaline, gold,cosby and many others. The redish tint along the anal fin is normal as many of mine but espicaly the golds have it.
