so, I have decided to bump up the minimum temp on the heaters to 65 degrees… they are still not running at all, but a cold front going through, so a cooler day to start, and I’m at 71 degrees tank temp at noon today… it will still get warmer… the reason for bumping the heat up for the winter months, is plant based… been researching, and most of the plants, except for the floaters, that I’ll move indoors over the winter, can handle lower light, and mid 60’s temps for the cold spell…
I really like these needle leaf java fern, and they seem to be doing in the tank right now ( I bought 6 bunches originally, and all got glued, they’re all glued, and that seems to be working well… one of the 6 clumps looked poorly, when it got here, I glued it anyway, and with the mostly dead leaves, it’s easy to see all the new starts coming…
this as the most robust, and has new starts as well… sorry, quite a bit of reflection on this picture…
I have a couple trap door snails ( originally Japanese ), coming, but these have been introduced into many global environments, and they likely are wild here as well, as they can over winter in frozen ponds… I’m hoping with the holiday this week, that the blue spot sunfish will arrive this week, but wouldn’t be surprised if it isn’t until next week…
