It’s looking good ! I like those Shiners . We overlook a lot of fish that are right here in our backyards and those Shiners are one of them .

thoughts on adding a few Jordanella floridae???
I’ve seen the blue spots and the flag fish in a shared tank, but not one that over wintered… the sunfish are listed as being able to over winter, and with the heaters set at 59-60 degrees, they will be quite comfortable, as should the minnows… however to lower temps the Jordanella floridae are usually listed, is 64-65 degrees … it would be interesting if they could go down to my tanks winter temperature, for the winter months, as the rest of the time, the tank will see more like tropical temps… maybe try them my 2nd winter, if the 1st one goes well, no need to excessively complicate the 1st winter…

curious if anyone has had the Jordanella floridae, thrive through a cool spell below 65 degrees???

Looks like a nice fish. Your thread is putting me in mind of other smaller fish that I could possibly put together in another tank, should I get one to fit my specific hole in a piece of existing furniture. Even more so than the Malawi's I had previously. Thanks

Now that fish is a wonderful colour. Even if only in breeding season.

1/4 inch thick special cut plate glass top… the extra thick, and tight fitting top will help hold heat in, during the winter… so far, all the rainbow shiners, and rosy minnows, are doing well… to early to tell on the plants, they look as received, and are still stuck to their original placement… no notice of shipping yet. on the blue spots… the shiners are every bit as nice, as many tetras are… over the black patch of sand, they reflect a lot of color…

I have to be honest, I see this aquarium leading to an outdoor, inground pond for native fish.......
