please help me feed my oscar

currenty have :

hikari cichlid gold pellets (not going down to well)

king british floating cichild sticks (totally ignored)

frozen bloodworms , mussels , cockels , lancefish.

would prefer to feed a staple of pellet food but thats not looking to promising at the moment, going to give beefheart a try this week too.

what would you reccomend?

They can difficult to feed sometimes, much like a toddler, one day eating something, the next totally refusing it.

You could try some mealworms or even plain ol garden worms (cleaned well I might add), as they love live food.

You are best to keep trying with the pellet food as this is a good staple for Oscars though, beefheart is good, but not too often. He wll come round in the end, as hunger outweights pickyness

"My" bigger ones are not to keen on it, but the 3" lot fight for their raw and peeled prawns.... They also show preference for the live earthworm above anything else.... occasional bloodworms are also taken excitedly....

hand feed with tetradoromin :) they love it, never had any probs with mine excepting it, is he new to the tank? if so he may just be sulking so dont go splashing out on anything and everything :)

he will eventually eat what you have on offer, dont worry like minx says they do pull their faces but they also get hungry :)

Mine was a pain at first, would only eat frozen Mysis but he now eats just about anything I put in the tank... including my finger when he forgets himself :p

I generally always feed a pellet food every day (hikari cichilid gold) and frozen food of some sort - I alternate between frozen baby sprat, mussels and cockles. I dont feed him bloodworm anymore as it seems to make him crap even more!

i guess this oscar is a newbie?
they usually take a few days to wean onto something else :good:
hilraki is a good quality pellet :good:
you could try feeding feeder shrimp from your lfs also woodlice from the garden are good, mine love these as treats.........
could also try the frozen cichlid food :good:
could take up to a month to take the food, what i would do is concentrate on only the hilraki pellets until he takes them, do not give up, took me 1.5months to get my jag to take the hilraki<feed absolutly nothing except the pellets,,, but did in the end,,,
