well a bit cheesed off that i had to re-home my sexy w/c blue acara today due to her increasing agression toward my little ( 4 to 5 inch) . now here come the questions

vinny my red spotted has always been a mellow guy but since the acara went hes started getting a bit shirty , mainly towards the green sev but hes also going after the little firemouth and generally seems to have the right hump. im really hoping he chills back out as re-homing him just aint gonna happen and i really dont want to part with the green sev. now this is my tank size / stocking and possible ideas for advice/opinions etc

4x2x2 453 litre /100 uk gallon
1 red spotted sev
1 green sev
1 senegal bichir
1 fetherfin synodontis
7 tiger barbs
15 corys
1 red tail black shark
1 L081 small spot golden nugget

for now the plan is keep an eye and see what happens but if it gets bad then sell the green sev and go for another big cichlid thats a bit harder that could handle itself if need be.
id quite like it to be a red tiger oscar but realisticly i rekon tank size is pushing it and the tiger barbs and corys would be at risk of being on the menu so maybe a gt could be a possibility . would have no problem with re-homing the firemouth and if need be the tiger barbs ( but id like to keep those if poss)

so questions are obviously regarding the oscar am i right with the concerns i mentioned opinions re the gt or any other very attractive larger cichlids i could look at?
also any ideas about the sudden change in vinny since the acara has gone?

Have you tried taking him out re-arranging the tank then putting him back in?

I think if the Acara had asserted its self as head fish the hierarchy will have gone so Vinny is just making sure he is now top or if he was top making sure he stays there. Personally I dont know much about oscars but I think it will be a no no in a 4ft usually people say a 75 for one and then 125 for 2 but with 2 sevs in a 100 as well I think it could be a bit iffy IMO. But like I say Im no expert so people may prove me wrong.

An idea I like, I actually prefer these to Oscars, could be Chocolat cichlids? Looks similar but more peaceful like a Sev as far as I know.

i might try that but it doesnt seem to be a territorial issue its just like removing the acara has given vinny the hump

the acara was only agro to the green sev. vinny has always been top dog by virtue of the fact hes always been the biggest fish but very mellow. the oscar wouldnt be as well as both sevs the green would be re-homed along with some others . but i doubt id get an oscar was just an idea

How abouts if it gets worse sell the green Sev and just try again? most places do greens and Golds pretty cheap.

Vinny was always top dog or so you thought. Good chance the 2 had a thing going where they kept eachother in check. I'm with Wills on this one. You took away one fish now the pecking order needs to work out again.

Agree with wills/snowflake, with taking away the most aggressive and unknown to you, dominant fish, Vinny is just making sure its known he is king! I doubt he will do any damage and will settle in a day or so.

I would say no to the Oscar, tank size is fine, so long as it was just Vinny and the Oscar, the TB's, Cories, firemouth would all be eaten, an Oscar grows at such a rate, over an 1" for the first 6-8 months and believe me, they have large mouths even for a 6" fish, its not that they are aggressive, but if it fits (and even if it just looks like it will fit) then they will eat it!!!

well it seems like vinny is over his hissy fit. i think wills pretty much hit the nail on the head came home from work tonight and teh tank is peacefull vinny did his loop the loop as soon as he saw me coming and the green sev is the most relaxed ive ever seen him.

i was going to get a sajica to replace the blue acara but ive decided that now everything is hunly-dory im gonna leave it with just vinny the green sev and the little firemoiuth for the cichlids and instead il get either another 6 to 8 tiger barbs or maybe a shoal of some other type of barbs havent decided but now its all settled im gonna leave it that way .
