My daughter now wants a tank (27-30 litre) in her room. :/
My question is: Can I put her filter (power head not under gravel) in my 125 L tank to get it bacteria laden, lessening the cycling I need to do, and how long would it need to be there for?
Also: will this spike my 125L tank when I remove it to set her tank up, and how do I handle that if it happens?

Thnx.

Do you want to add fish to the new tank straight away? if so the best thing you could do is take 1/3 of the mature media from the filter in your existing tank and put it in the new filter. This will mean you could stock your new tank with a 1/3 of the amount of fish that your old tank has staright away, then you could add more fish gradually each week.

Remember to keep an eye on the water stats for the older tank for a few weeks because you may get a small ammonia spike whilst the bacteria builds back up to the required level :good:

ps; If you do get a spike in the older tank do a decent size water change 50-75% to keep the ammonia level as low as possible.

If you want to fishless cycle the new tank, get it running and then clean your existing filter in the new tank. The bit that you knock loose in the process will give you a very nice start for a fishless cycle. Mine are usually showing done in about a week.
