ok so my tank finished cycling, and so I bought some corys (juli's and a skunk (skunk going in a diff tank from juli's but that's beside the point) ) so I got home, set up my q/t tank, put in filter from reg. tank, an ornament from my reg. tank and a handful of gravel, so I put 50% reg. tank water and 50% tap water and treated it, now my q/t tank is reading .25ppm ammonia, so I tested my reg. tank and sure enough 0ppm ammonia just like normal, WHY? and will my cories be ok? maybe the bacteria just haven't gotten to the ammonia yet (only been in water for half an hour and I know my tap has chloramines which are broken down in to ammonia by aquasafe right?) so am I in trouble or am I just paranoid?

Hi MXPX4318 :)

Did you cycle with fish or do a fishless cycle? Or do you mean your quarantine tank, which hasn't been cycled, is showing ammonia?

I'm not completely sure of what you mean, but don't panic. You can always take water from the good tank and do water changes with it to get the ammonia down. As long as you are monitoring it, you will be able to do the right thing for your fish.

BTW, if you only got one skunk cory, why not think about buying a couple more so it will be in a little school. Three of any kind of corys is about the minimum you should keep together. You will see the difference as they will become more active and less shy. :D

did you cycle the QT tank?
i think you should do a water change now and one every day until the problem is solved.

ok so the quarintine tank has the problem, no it hasn't been cycled persay, but the filter for the quarintine tank, the ornament in the quarintine tank, and a handful of gravel in the quarintine tank, all came from the CYCLED display tank that I have. I did fish cycle my 20g display tank with 5 gold barbs, and then moved 5 gallons of that water into my 10g quarintine tank. So I figured that would "cycle" my quarintine tank enough for some corys. I am doing 10% water changes everyday in the quarintine tank.

PS- the skunk is going in a tank with 2 lonley panda corys. and they'll school together (because the julii's and the skunk are hanging with each other right now schooling and swimming around)

Hi MXPX4318 :)

You are doing the right thing. As long as the ammonia levels stay that low you will be fine. How are the nitrite and nitrate readings? They will tell you more about the state of the cycling process than just going by the ammonia will.
