25Gal Centrepiece Fish Ideas

Hi,

I'm still trying to decide on a nice pair/trio of centrepiece fish for my 25gal tank that is currently fishless cycling.

I originally wanted apistos or some form of dwarf cichlid but the fact that I want a large group of cherry shrimp in there will cause a problem with most dwarf cichlids.

Any ideas would be much appreciated, ideally something a bit out of the ordinary/colourful.

Also in the tank will be a shoal of 10-12 fork tailed blue eyed rainbowfish.

Some type of gourami perhaps? I've got 3 pearls as my centre piece but there's a few species you could keep.

If you go with the smaller Appisto's you should have no problems with cherry shrimp. A. cacatuoides, agassizi, viejita, borellii are ideal? If you can get 1 male to 2 females you'll be fine

Or there are small dwarf gourami's. The small honey/red ones are adoreable.

They would certainly fit in with the recommended pH for Pseudomugil furcata (upto ~8 and moderately hard water), as would quite a few fish species from Myanmar. According to the profile at "Seriously Fish" (http/www.seriously...plendens&id=991) the males can get rather feisty with each other, so it suggests a higher female:male ratio than lots of fish (4:1).

Once my big/active fish upgrade to Nelly's old 540l tank, the Rio240 will be turned into a "micro fish" tank, including both Pseudomugil furcata and Sawbwa respendens. They look superb, even more so in the flesh (were some in a tank with Rummynose at the Titchfield branch of Maidenhead Aquatics ~two months ago).

You then could perhaps combine the Rainbows and barb with some Pangio kuhli.
