I've been overseas several times since I lust checked in here, so stocking hasn't progressed unfortunately.
The LEDs are Aquazonic - there were 2 varieties, freshwater and marine. Wasn't sure what the difference was, but I got the freshwater one and it has day and moonlight which I enjoy.
Okay stocking has somewhat progressed. I was going to have a fish in here (pygmy corys) but they seem unnecessary.
At the moment I have 7 Crystal Red Shrimp and I'm looking at getting either RCS and lots of them or going for less of a different colour variety - Blue Cherry Shrimp/Blue Bolt Shrimp look quite cool and have resale volume.
This whole idea is great. I also love the fact that you didn't set the bottle up perfectly, and same for the substrate. Looks great!!
I have recently set up a 10g shrimp tank, and purchased 15 blue pearl (cherry) shrimp. They seem to be quite sensitive!! I'm down to maybe 5, but that be due to the heat lately. I did read that they need well established tanks and I obviously didn't listen. Just a heads up
I quite like idea myself obviously, though I must confess I didn't set up the sand that way - the filter on full flow moved it around quite a lot.
I am hoping my tank is established enough for shrimp. I went the Red Cherry option and they should be arriving today. The filter media is from my established tank, but there were about 9 hours of power outage last night (and I was out) so some bacteria may have died off, but the Crystal shrimp seem fine.
I've had good success with regular cherries, you should be fine. Hopefully your media was wet during the power outage, that would at least help.... darn power out ages.
