[background=rgb(252, 252, 255)]I have decided to get 2 filters for my 240l tank (when I get it) but am currently in a dilemma as to whether to use Zooplus.de to get 2 x JBL e1501s for around £195 or get 2 x Tetratec EX1200s for £145. Whilst my heart says stick with the JBL's my wallet (and most probably the wife!) will say the Tetratecs.[/background]

[background=rgb(252, 252, 255)]Has anyone used both to help me make my mind up?[/background]

[background=rgb(252, 252, 255)]Thanks,[/background]

Can I ask why you want two filters? You won't gain much from using two.

you can gain alot from two filters. you can have all your mechanical filtration in one filter with small amount of bio media. and a pre mechanical sponge and the rest all biological and chemical. thats an example. but two filters means more media and more choice :L

In a 240L tank with a 300l rated filter you need no more bio unless you plan to overstock. Which a lot of people are highly against.

If you're after flow may I suggest adding a powerhead as well as the filter?

There are several reasons why I want to go down the 2 filter route but I agree I could just add a powerhead if I wanted to save costs:

1) Backup in case one goes wrong as recently happened on my current tank running a single Rena XP1.
2) I intend to set up a high tech planted tank using EI so as much flow as possible is best
3) I intend to use either an atomiser or reactor for CO2 injection via an FE system which I want on 1 filter and the other will run a Hydor inline heater....running 2 means the flow rate isn't affected as much as by running both on one.

Filters are very limited in term of flow, If you're going down the FE CO2 you will need a powerhead anyway. I can understand the shock if one filter breaks down it's why I'll always service and clean the filter I have at the time. The issue you may come across using both if is if one breaks and that one is holding the most good bacteria and you go using one for awhile I think you'll find you're tank slips into a mini cycle and fish die. So it's something worth thinking about anyway.
