2.5 gallon shrimp?

Hi everyone! Its been a bit since i was last on here, but i have a 2.5 gallon that housed a betta a long while ago (they got an upgrade) and my sister wants to use it. Its a small cylindrical 2.5 gallon, and i added a sponge filter and a nice piece of wood. Do you guys think it would be ok to put in just a few shrimp? She had a hard time with the betta so i want to know what you guys would recommend to put in there for beginners. Im adding some plants and teaching her how to water change but i really want some outside input. Thanks!
