2,000 Liter Discus Tank

As dumb as a box of rocks! 

 
I needed to find the right rocks for my planned scape. I knew the ones I wanted, but I can't tell you what they are called, as I am no geologist! They are dark grey with white lines running through them.
 
Anyway, where I am working there is a big lake, and a few years ago they built a dam wall to increase the size of the lake. This dam wall has been protected from erosion by the use of tons of the exact rock I wanted. I am not about to advocate the theft of rocks from dams, but there must be a million tons there(slight exaggeration!), so my removing 25 kg for my tank shouldn't effect the structural integrity of the dam!

It's actually on military controlled land, and I work there with them, so it's fine.

Could i ask what size is the tank ?? Looks smaller than a 2,000 Liter....

as a guess it looks roughly like 9ft x 3.5ft x 3ft
 
But im probably 100% wrong.

The tank is 84 inches x 36 x 40, in new money that's 210cm x 90 x 100. The sump is 60 inches x 18 x 18, 150cm x 45 x 45.

So before I left for work I wanted to try to get as much prep-work done as I could. I was short on time, but I also knew that when I get back(10 Oct) I will be trying to get everything else completed in a 3 day period, before I would need to turn right around and head back to work.
 
So I had done what I could on the new tank, but I could actually start the strip down of the old tank. So I removed everything from it, plants, substrate, wood and rocks. So the tank was totally empty, and then put the fish back in. This also makes the maintenance easier for my girlfriend while I am away, as she just needs to siphon the bottom and do water changes.
 
Then when I get back I don't need to worry about the old tank. All efforts can be concentrated on the new build. I also used put some of the old substrate into the center part of the refugium(sump) where the plants will eventually be placed. This should help kick start the cycle, as the bacteria in the substrate will migrate to the bio balls and ceramics. Well, that's the plan at least

They are absolutely fine. I don't think they care about anything that they can't eat! All they care about is food, they're all a bunch of greedy guts!

Thanks Shelster, with the extra space in the new tank I plan to add a few more to the family. I have a a potential new contact at one of the Discus farms here, so with luck I might be able to go directly to the farm and select the better ones. A job for next month, after I have completed the tank.

I will be heading back home, for a long weekend, in about 12 days. So I will go and pick up all the plants then and spend the weekend planting and installing the lights, etc. So not much to add until then....Sorry
