1St Post! 55Gal New Tank Help

i got this 5gall its completely cycled and now I'm not sure what to put in it all i have so far is a Bolivian ram angel fish an two albino plecos which i might get rid of i found a snowball pleco at a lfs to replace them

Yeah Albino Plecs may grow quit large even for a 55g. If you opt for a community aquarium a nice big shoal of tetras would look stunning or Rasboras. You have a lot of room to play with.

Sounds good so far! Swapping your commons for the snowballs is a really good idea as well Just to check how did you cycle your tank and how long did it take?

Get some apistogrammas and some cardinals they are South American fish like your rams.

I agree, I have a little snowy & he's great. He does hide all day though, I must confess. A lot of pleco's do though in all fairness. I also think you should get a shoal of tetra's, like 10+. Maybe Cardinals or Rummy Nose?

i thew some gold fish in there for a month in a half o so then i gave them to my mom for her aquarium she has a thing for gold fish btw that used to be my aquarium till she found this huge lion head goldfish

just googled it i think i may get a few of those they are pretty cool now i just go to find them only a few lfs around here

cardinals are a "upgraded" version of neons, they get slightly bigger and have a full red stripe

oh ok i will see if my lfs has them if not i will settle for the neons hope the have them tho
what about fantail guppies do they school like tetras???

Mine have spawned but the fry are too young.

You could try www.tropicalfishfinder.co.uk it is a search engine that searches stocking on LFS - there might be a store near you that has them.

ur angelfish will eat the neon tetras (but perhaps not cardinal tetras if ur lucky). i woudl suggest keeping a group of 4 angelfish or just 1, if u get more try to buy as close to the same size as the one/s u already have

1 bolivian ram
1 angelfish
2 plecs

55gal (u put 5gal in 1st post)

I would check the pH of water I am going to use for water changes and maybe the GH and KH as well, and choose fish that enjoy the water parameters I have from the tap.
If your mother is keeping goldfish that enjoy hard,alkaline water,, then perhaps your source water is best suited for livebearer's or fish that enjoy hard water as opposed to some of the tetras and dwarf cichlids that enjoy softer ,more acidic waters.

the goldfish is in another tank not in my i really hate that gold fish the only good thing that came out of them is my 55g
oh and i got four more fish to 2 red severums and 2 mono seadae

Monos are beautiful!

I had one but it died I'm pretty sure they will need brackish condiions eventually but not certain.

#41#### they were bad impulse buys on your part - those severums are going to get huge like 10-12 inches and need bigger tank than you have usually the minimum size for one severum is 75 gallons. And also as said above the monos are brackish fish which means they need a certain amount of salt in their tank but not as much as marine but your other fish wont be able to tollerate that level of salt so they really are not compatable and I would try and address this situation asap - though its a bit of an awkward situation for you as I would not reccomend taking them back to the LFS as they will obviously sell them to other fresh water tanks and that will mean these fish will inevitably die very young. And again these are big big fish sometimes getting to a foot long and 16-18 inches tall so they need very big tanks, they are very active and are a shoaling fish as well which means that 2 isnt really going to cut it. They are actually a popular public aquarium fish for their marine displays as when they are adults they can live very well in full marine water but not freshwater.

Sorry for the bad news but in a way it proves a lesson you need to learn which is to read up on fish before you buy them. And I wont say dont trust your LFS as there are a lot of good ones out there but this is an occasion that they have let you down so I really would consider a stock list of fish before you go into a shop so you know what your buying and what your getting into.
