15 Litre cherry shrimp tank

Hello,

This is my 15 litre cherry shrimp tank, it's been running for about 7 years.

Fuller tank shot. I have some damp around the tank from a recent weird event where water was siphoning down from the light clamp.

Still going. Had a die off period with the shrimp, which I've had before, thought I was going to lose them all but the population has really picked up again this year. Think it might be the Indian almond leaves, don't think there was enough biofilm for grazing before but since I've kept up with the leaves everything seems fine, 40+ individuals I think.

I have to trim everything all the time. Cherry shrimp are booming and are 50+.

Also, a juvenile Ancistrus from another tank. Keeps the glass clear.

I've suffered several massive die off events with cherry shrimp in the past 10 years, like down to 10 shrimp or less. I don't know if its the biofilm from the Indian almond, but for the past few years they've just been reproducing like crazy and show no signs of slowing down. It's such a small tank too.

Good to hear it's on the up at least! I tested culls in a 12L, and it did not go to plan at all. I put in 10 or so, and within a few months I was down to half, so I gave up. The almond leaves probably do help with food production. I usually add them to my neo tank when I go away and come back to it swarmed with shrimp.

Do you feed them at all? Mine seem to get friskier after a dose of Bacter AE.

Also, is that crypt balansae? I've been looking for a taller plant that will do well in hard water.

Yes, once per day. I think you're probably right, but I don't know for sure what the leggy plant is called, grows like a weed. The water is pretty soft in Wales, pH 7.2

Do you do water changes?

I keep crystals and cut back a lot on water changes as sounds strange but though used aged / dechlorinated . same temp water suspect 20 percent a month was to much but others might disagree?
