I am hopeing to get a 15 gallon tank with the money I got for my report card and for Christmas. I didnt do really good on my first tank, and I would like to do a really good job stocking wise on this tank. I want a good variety of interesting and nice fish that get along good together. This is what I have right now for my 29 gallon.

2 neon tetras
2 danios
3 black skirt tetras
4 different types of corys
2 yoyo loaches
1 clown pleco
1 platy
1 honey gourami

It is not a very good stocking list but oh well. That is why I want to do very well on this stocking. I dont like the 29 gallons stocking, so I want to like this one. lol

So I want some good stocking ideas for a 15 gallon. Thanks!!! And merry Christmas!!! :D

If I were you, I would up the schools of each fish and move some into the 15 gallon, as two of any tetra isnt good. I would use the 15 and put the two neons youve got, plus 4 or so more, as well as add 4 or so more danios to the bunch and add them to the 15 as well. Then, I'd up the school of black skirts to 6 or so. You could also probably move the platy to the 10 gallon. Then, with any extra room, I would add in some more fish, but if I were you, I'd worry about the fish I've got right now.

Yeah I was orriganally thinking of that. But I am probably altering that stocking cause I may get a bigger tank. So any good ideas for stocking a 15 gallon? :)

How about some harlequins, say a school of 6-7 and some cories for the bottom. I would also go planted becuase Personally, I think it makes the harlequins look wonderfull. If you get the cories, Id take one type of cory from the other tank and give him 2-3 friends, depending on the type of cory. Once the tank is stable maybe 3 otos or something.

How bout this?

5 something or other schooling fish
5 panda corys
1 dwarf qourami

Any suggestions for the schooling fish and for any other fish would be great!
:)

Hi,

That sounds pretty good. For schooling fish, you could get 5 Cardinals.

Cory Crazy

well bud

i would honestly try for a 20 gal price should be about the same

as to stocking everyone is different

Could try livebearers swordtails-platys- are tons of cool types
coryies-- neons - tetra's are cool --

Yeah I love platys and swordtails. I would love some of those. And if I can get a 20 gal for about the same price I will definetly get it. :)

I have both a 15g and a 20g (tall), I prefer the 20g, mainly as it looks better but the added water volume and height isn't a bad thing.

More footprint more fish yes, more water more stability. A 20g tall is only 15" tall, not that big compared to a 90g, 24" tall.

I think a bigger footprint gives you more stocking options compared to a taller tank (with the exception of stocking Angels, of course).

I don't know..I was looking at the 20 tall at the store and it looked like I'm gonna get my armpits wet if I did some aquascaping on it  Hence the awkward comment. Imagine fishies nibbling on ur pits...hahahaha!

How tall are you FKNM? A 20 tall isn't that tall. 16 inches max.

Back to the thread. I'd also spring the extra dough for the 20g. Whether tall or long, it'll hold more fish, though I never pay attention to stocking anyways. My 15g high in IL, which had the same footprint as a 10g, had 9 harlequins, 4 honey gouramis, and 7 pygmy cories, but that's me. That would be a pretty stocking for a 20g, come to think of it.

llj :)

I was looking at the 20 gallon long at petco the other day. And my friend has the tall 20 gallon. I like them both. I dont know which I will get in the end. Probably which ever is cheaper lol. For the stocking how bout this...

5 panda corys
3 platys
3 sword tails
1 dwarf gourami
5 tetras

Suggestions for tetras please!!!

If you think you can keep water quality steady, go for about 6 rummy nose tetras, no more. I think they look best at 6. :D If you're not up to that challenge, try Black Phantom Tetras. They look nice, I'd get about 8. They're peaceful, too. There's lemon tetras, which I find a bit delicate (I bought 7, 5 online, 2 from my lfs, and all died, no other fish has died), but they look really nice, especially with the red eye. Black Neon tetras look awesome in groups of about 15, if you do that your tank will be a little overstocked, but I think it's worth it, there should still be enough room and as long as you don't neglect water changes it should be okay. Emperor tetras look pretty cool, I've never had them though, I'd say get about 6 of those. Penguin Tetras are nice too, 6 or eight of those.

If you didn't notice, I failed to mention Neon Tetras, because I'm sure you know that's an option and most people know whether they want them or not. I'm assuming you don't because otherwise you wouldn't be asking for suggestions. BUT, if you do, here's some info:  THey get to 2 inches, and some people say they aren't hardy, though mine lasted through a cycle. I guess it's just lick maybe? Good or bad, I don't know. Mine aren't as active as my other tetras, but only one has died in 4 months. VEry colorful fish, although I feel they are a bit too popular. Cardinal tetras are very similar, though apparently more hardy, the only visual difference is the red stripe extending to the nose.

Well, I hope you've found this post informative.
Best of luck,
-Leah

Thanks n3ont3tra. Ok how bout this.

8 lemon tetras
5 panda corys
2 platys
2 sword tails
1 dwarf gourami

I know it isnt 15 for the lemon tetras, but I dont want to be overstocked. I like the sound of them. I think they would look nice! I am going to go planted to I think they would look nice in it. I think this is going to turn out to be my best tank yet! :)
