15 Gallon Stocking

Yea, 8 is okay for Lemons, they get bigger than black neons and are more active, you should be able to see them fine. Here is the best picture I found.

It's pretty cool, you can only see the red on their eye soemtimes, like at certain angles, and it's really bright, it looks so cool. They were one of my favorite.
When I got mine, they were not very yellow in color but after about a week they looked better. Sadly, all of them died within 4 weeks, although not one of the other fish died. That puzzled me, because I got a lot of the other fish at the same time, from the same place... oh well.

I like them very much. I think they will look really nice in this aquarium. Let's just hope I have better luck. :)

Careful with the lemon tetras, they can be quite nippy. But yeah, their colors are lovely. Very subtle, but pretty.

Really? For the 4 weeks or so mine were alive, they hung out with the neons, and didn't even chase any of my other fish.

I don't know..I was looking at the 20 tall at the store and it looked like I'm gonna get my armpits wet if I did some aquascaping on it  Hence the awkward comment. Imagine fishies nibbling on ur pits...hahahaha!

How tall are you FKNM? A 20 tall isn't that tall. 16 inches max.

5'6", but I have this stupid habit of reaching in from one corner to another instead of moving to the left/right first before reaching in. Did that make sense?

Ha ha! Me too, but I move to the sides. :p Now, my 36g bowfront, that is a royal pain in the buttocks! Cherry barbs are nipping on my armpits all the time!

Yeah, I agree, watch the lemons. They are a Hyphessobrycon species, and like their cousins, serpae tetras, they can get nippy if not in the right numbers. Otherwise a lovely fish with beautiful colors, very subtle.

llj :)

New plan! I had a nice trip to Petco today to find a nice sale going on. Their 29 gallon kits were on sale for 88 dollars! Very good price! I am very happy. Now I can move my stocking up a bit. Here we go.

5 corydoras
1 gold bristle nose pleco
8 lemon tetras
3 platys
3 sword tails
1 dwarf gourami
1 angel fish
1 gold gourami

:D Would this work by any chance?

I wouldn't add a few of those, I'd go for -

6 corydoras
1 gold bristle nose pleco
8 lemon tetras
4 platys
1 angel fish

Instead. Just because dwarf gourami's can be hard too keep alive due too a viral disease, gold gourami's can be territorial, often highly and the swordtails I'd swap out for a few more platies and cories.

What filtration will you be using?

What about the pearl gouramis? Could I swap one of the platys for one? So it would be:

6 corydoras
1 bristle nose pleco
8 lemon tetras
3 platys
1 angel fish
1 pearl gourami

And the filteration would be the Tetra Whisper filter. :)

5 corydoras
1 bristle nose pleco
6 lemon tetras
3 platys
1 angel fish
1 pearl gourami

?

Wait, wasn't it just said that lemons are nippy? I don't think that would be good with angelfish...

Well maybe if I brought the number back up to 8 they wouldnt be as bad. I also like the flame tetras, If I have to I could change it to them instead. :)

They seemed like nice fish. I was looking at them today. I also saw the lemon tetras in person too. They were also nice. There was also a tetra that I also liked but I cannot remember what it was. But another thing that I liked about the flame tetras was that they were a little smaller that the lemons. Hopefully it will work out. So the almost final stocking is so far:

5 corydoras catfish
3 platys
1 pearl gourami
1 angel fish
6 flame tetras
1 gold bristle nose pleco

:D
