Today he seems abit off, im very worried! He is not very active, looks like swimming is too much of a chore for him, usually he is soending most if his time nibbling around the tank deco, now he is just floating around the bottom looking abit sick!

Did you cycle the filter and stuff before hand? Have you got a test kit to measure the levels?

I have some horrible news. I was removing alot of the substrate from my tank as i had way to much and it was very difficult for me to clan and for my pimelodus pictus to feed. So i was grabbing handfull's of slate and throwing it into the bin. I done this about 10-15 times then disposed of the excess slate, done a large water change and then left the tank to settle. I went back an hour later and my red tail was no where to be found! :( All i can think is the worst and that is I have scooped the fish with all the slate and thrown him away :( I cannot believe it im absolutely gutted and feel really bad, like sick to the stomache the fact i have killed a perfectly healthy and happy fish :(

honest i cannot believe what has happened, thats the only thing that could have went wrong, unless he is hiding somewhere

Fingers crossed for him hiding... Have you tried feeding? Mine used to be straight out for food!

mine likes to hide under the bridge with the clown loach. However you did say he was abit off, he may have died and been eaten by the other fish. i have had fish disappear overnight. i can tell you, a pleco can make light work of a largish fish like a gourami in a few hours. i didn't believe it till i saw it with my own eyes.

fish can just vanish
