Hello and welcome to all who are politely reading this who can hopefully help me.

Me and my girlfriend are going to be getting our own place soon (a flat) and we both like fish and we want something big in the dining room and I like the idea of a 10ft by 3ft by 3ft tank.

I've had tanks myself previously, I've had a 3fter, 4fter and a 8fter all 2ft by 2ft's before and now I'm getting my own place I fancy something bigger.

I just have quite a few questions regarding this size tank.

1) Will the floorboards handle this type of weight?
2) What should I build the stand out of?
3) What filters should I get regarding this size tank?
4) What should I do about lighting?
5) Will small to medium size fish be better to have than just a few big ones?
6) How will I get this size tank built will it have to be built in the actual room?

Thank you.

1) you tell us?
2) lego
3) sump
4) you've done other tanks before, im guessing you got a good idea :D
5) what fish do you want? no point getting a massive tank for 6 neons...for example.
6) possibly, maybe go in through the window which might have to be taken out

I'd make absolutely sure that the building structure can handle the weight of such an enormous tank. That would be like putting a swimming pool in your dining room. I can't even get beyond this point.

1) Consult a structural engineer.
2) Depends on the look you are after, if you like the lego idea above you could use that for a shell, but probably not support.
3) Without a doubt sump filtration. Many people with a tank that size will have the filtration & such in a different room rather than beneath the tank.
4) Lighting depends on plants, what type of plants, as well as the look you are trying to achieve.
5) A tank with 2000 neons is a sight to behold, stocking, again, depends on the look you are after.
6) It may well have to be erected in place, along with the stand and filtration.

I'm assuming your flat is going to be on an upper level? I hate to break it to you, but if it is, it may well not be possible if you want the building to remain in one piece.

Now, I'm not the best at maths, but we're going with the rule that water weighs 1kg per 1 litre. A 10ft by 3ft by 3ft tank is 90 cubic feet, which works out to roughly 2500 litres. This is two and a half metric tons in water alone!

Lego.... LOL. Will be watching this post.

Yet another spoof poster.

10' x 3' x 3' is a small swimming pool not a fish tank and I suspect if there is anything genuine about this post then it is merely an enquiry about building regs regarding installation of a hot tub. it may not be about fish but it is certainly fishy.

Are you implying the OP is a troll?

If there was a big enough bridge, this OPer would be hiding under it.

Lol

If I had a 10ft I certainly know what I would do with it.

how large is the 900 gallon going to be?

No idea atm.
Have to wait til I move house in May, And also funds are low, very low indeed.
But its going to happen just not as soon as I would like it to be.
Plan was going to be 18'x3'3 .
Moving to the notts so will be built outside, in a outside house which needs to be built.

If the OP indeed had the tanks before that he listen, he would certainly know where to research to build this bohemoth he is inquiring about. I believe this is a joke post
