so i decided that im bored of new worlds and wanted to scratch the long time itch for an african tank.

tank specs 100 ukg 4x2x2 2 eheim 2217s 2 300w rena smart heaters

tank in its current ( and very boring) state

mock up of how the rocks will look . i know i havent gone very high but its only going to be a small group of mbuna , with the upper open water area populated with peacocks and a few haps

thanks mate . great news substrate arrived this morning , along with ph test kit . tested the water out of my tank and was pleasantly surprised to see that its sitting somewhere between 7.5 and 8 . so i dont need to really do much with my water . im about to get busy aquascaping and ordering fish . expect some new pics later on of the finished csape , ready for fish!!

quick update , the scape is done . tomorrow im going to put a new black background on , but heres the tank so far .

id try and sit the rocks more natural. I know you want caves etc but by sticking them in at angles like the one on the left will make it look more natural. You have nice rock for it.

I can't ever see a stack of rocks piled up like that looking natural.

thanks for the input and i appreciate your honesty but i need the caves for the labs , plus i like it better this way too.plus this scape is functional as well as decorative. it gives a rock reef/caves for the labs , while leaving open water for the haps and peacocks

yeah im defecting to the dark side mate lol . istill like new worlds but after having always kept them im just bored of keeping them so i wanted a change of direction and ive always drooled over the colourful african cichlids.

thanks took me about 2 hours to get em like that lol kept changing them then changing them back again. it all looks cleaner now too. should of waited nefore i did the pic. the glas was dirty inside from all the worm , watermarks outsid e from all the splashes and the background was shot to bits. it still looks the same but crisper and cleaner now ive cleaned it up and put on a new black backgroun

errrm ..........not lol im never selling that wood , as long as ive got fish il keep it . id never get another bit like that especialy for 8 quid :lol:

thanks lisa . yep i used the gulley covers you reccomended .did the job a treat too :good: fish due for delivery tomorrow , will post pics once they are settled in .
