100 Ukg Malawi Madness!

its a shame that chichlids are agressive really. i guess their beauty comes at a price

i guess so but agression is relative , put these in with community fish and they would make mincmeat out of them , other cichlids tho its more manageable . altho i find an empty tank for emergencies is a must with these guys

This is where lots of research is a must so that compatible species are stocked together instead of a pot luck mish mash of aggression.

I`ve had my malawi/mbuba setup running for a while now and I opted for the Tanganyikans for the first big tank as I thought the /malawi/mbunas would be way too aggressive for me to handle, but the only fish out of the malawi/mbuna that has shown any aggression is the dominant male mpanga towards the sub dominant one and it doesn`t happen often.
On the whole the setup is a peaceful one :good:

Nice fish Mark :good: :good:

thanks lisa .
have to say mine is pretty peaceful too . as lisa said the trick is in the species selection and m/f ratios .

wow what a difference, its amazing how much they change when they are happy and feeding well. i dont have any cichlids, hopefully in a few months once tank has cycled :)

its great seeing the colours develop . im trying to get 1 of him showing off to the females , as when he does that the colours go really intense . the only problem is when he does that he moves at 100mph

mark please dont take offence but your barring on the jalo is very odd? i would expect more solid bars of black on an afra? could they possibly be Metriaclima emmiltos rather than jalo a lot of importers get the 2 confused

agreed the 2 are very similar but i trust the breeder they came from

it is with great sadness that i have to report malawi madness is no more . . a screwed economy and a lack of reliable work put me in dire straits and i had to sell everything . the fish went the filters went and the tank is up for sale . luckilly tho i have found some work so i should be able to keep the tank but i will have to steady the bank balance 1st then get more filters etc and cycle it , so im temporarily out of the game . i have 2 tanks and no fish or filters . id just like to thank everybody for all the kind comments in this journal and say that i may be down but im not out . malawi madness WILL be back i just dont know exactly when . but for now............ focker out
