100 Gallon Stocking List

Yes, kuhlis are really hard to catch. I prefer other loaches as kuhlis are often in hiding, plus they tend to get into your filter and other problems...

I have 2 yoyo loaches and they are always out and about. Nice fish. I have also Botia robusta in quarantaine and the same thing. I used to have zebra loaches and they were a bit shy. I had only 3, but when you have 5 or more, they are fine.

What do y'all think of this stocking list: ?????

15 x Rummy Nose Tetra
15 x Cardinal Tetra
15 x Emperor Tetra
2 x Pearl Gourami
10 x ..... Cichlid's (Cupid, Cockatoo, Key-hole Ram???)
15 x Skunk Corydoras
1 x ..... Pleco
1 x ..... pleco

So, if anyone has any idea's too fill in the blanks, that would be awsome :p For Cichlids, i'm looking for the one's I put there, or similar spechies. for the Pleco, I want something small-medium sized, and fairly peaceful that will eat algae. So, any idea's would be awsome :good:

Hmmm.... does anyone have any idea's for nice, small-medium sized pleco's? :good:

Pitbull plecos - parotocinclus jumbo (http://www.fishkeeper.co.uk/databank.aspx?id=349)
Utterly fabulous plecos, they only grow to about 6cm and prefer to be in groups of atleast 3 or 4. they are very like corydoras. Brilliant algae cleaners, all round super fish.
However they might not be ok sharing a tank with a bristlenose, pitbulls are extremely peaceful themselves but the bn plecos might not agree with them.

hope this helps :) x x x

Personally I am not very fond of plecos. I would suggest the upside down catfish (synodontis nigriventis). Also very peaceful and doesn't grow too big either. Another nice one is the spotted raphael catfish although it gets considerably bigger.

i think i would drop the cardinals for either red eye or penguin tetras. red eye looks great i think, and as far as i know penguins tend to stay near the surface, which could be nice for the make-up of your tank. cardinals seems to get suggested for every tank going on this forum, they're nice but a bit common for me. i used to have a single pakistani loach and he was amazing. very energetic always on the move. i had to get rid of him due to aggression, but my mate rehomed in a larger tank with clown loaches and in that environment he has been absolutely fine. they have great markings. i also have cherry barbs and under the tank lights their colour really comes out and makes an impression.

Hi :)

With the cichlids, I suggested 10 Cupids as they are a gregarious species that will need the company and also work well in the group as it is quite natural for them. With other species of cichlid the numbers would be lower but perhaps split between a few species as well. If you want to stick with dwarf cichlids have a google and find some species that you really like and we can juggle them around to work for your tank :)

As for plecos http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/numbers.php?mode=l&thumbs=16&start=240&genus_id=0 have a good look in there every plec that is recognised :) Lots of options, maybe an inspector plec and a queen arabesque? Though admitedly few plec species will eat a massive amount of algae.

Thanks, guys! Well... I'm looking into Pitbull Plec's... have herd alot about them. Will's, do you think it would be possivle to have a smaller group of Cupid's (say, 5), and have a paire of Cockatoo Cichlid's? I really like Cockatoo's, and would love to throw some in

Thanks, you guys are awsome

Yeah that sounds really nice actually :) - make sure you check out a few species of Apisto though as there are some amazing ones that are possible to get in particular one called Strawberry Apistogramma on ebay at the moment - similar finnage to cacatuoides but amazing red faces!

Thanks Wills! So, stocking right now is

15 x Rummy Nose Tetra
15 x Cardinal Tetra
15 x Emperor Tetra
02 x Cockatoo Cichlids
05 x Cupid Cichlids
02 x Pearl Gourami
02 x Bristlenose Catfish

I'm thinking i'll just stick with the BN's, but If I see something, i'll throw it in. What do you think is the max size for a pleco in my tank?

Thanks for all the advice

Zophie

P.S Or do you think I should switch the BN for Pitbulls?

Not at all - dont feel pressured into getting smaller plecs as most plecs are not predatory - the only thing to kind of mention is since you have so many open water fish you will need a fair amount of open space in the tank so the plecs might not be that visable unless you make specific shady areas for them.

hmmm what plecs would I do in here - mainly the really colourful ones, I think you need a spotty one at least, maybe a blue phantom.....

I think these would be my short list
http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/species.php?species_id=308
http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/species.php?species_id=204
http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/species.php?species_id=213
http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/species.php?species_id=210
http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/species.php?species_id=126
http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/species.php?species_id=635
http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/species.php?species_id=229

I think my favorite 3 would be the L135, L187a and the L128 - L135 are a really nice plec I had one for a while and he was quite active but when I first got my fluval FX5 the pipes had bits missing and he got sucked in :( Ive been seeing a lot of really good quality L187a around and they all look awesome their big mouths are so comical - and Blue Phantoms I want because they are becoming rare due to import ban and for that reason could shoot up in price and value soon but I dont know how much of a gamble that would be as it could be money you simply never see again?

I would reccommend getting more than 2 pearl gouramis, unless they are both female. The males have better colors though, so I would get 1 or 2 males and 4+ females. You certainly have room and that would be awesome.

Hi guys,
Wills, thanks for those links, I looked at the pleco's, and I like the Blue Phantom, and the last one there.. can't remember what it's called.
So, i'm trying to look at two different stocking list's, here they are

Stocking A

15 x Rummy Nose Tetra
15 x Cardinal Tetra
15 x Emperor Tetra
2 x Pearl Gourami
5 x Cupid Cichlids
2 x Cockatoo Cichlids
15 x Skunk COrydoras
2 x .... pleco.

Stocking B

10 x Rummy Nose Tetra
10 x Cardinal Tetra
10 x Emperor Tetra
4 x Pearl Gourami ( Three females, one male)
5 x Cupid Cichlid
2 x Cockatoo Cichlid
10 x Skunk COrydoras
1 x ..... Pleco

So, tell me what you think is better :good:

Zophie

P.S Thanks for all the replys :fun:

I would do stocking A but with 3 Pearl Gourami 1m 2f

If you like Blue Phantoms have a search on aquarist classified for oddball express he is selling them in groups of 3 for £55 which is a great price for them especially at the moment with the ban looming.

Thanks, and what is the ban for Blue Phantom's? I also like the Queen Arabesque Pleco... trying to decide between the QA and the BP ??? :sly:
So, you think I should do stocking A, but with one more Pearl Gourami, yes?

The ban on the plecs is just the ban of exporting wild caught ones - mainly due to depletion in the wild but it also pushes up the value of exporting F1 bred ones from South America ;) Some plecs like this and the Zebra are national symbols so they protect them greatly.

But yeah other than that I reckon your onto a winner :)
