10 Gallon

I need some sugestions for stocking my ten gallon because I now have A 5 gallon for my betta. Anyways, I really want 1 or 2 dwarf gouamis and neons. No cories, I think I'll use shrimp ( yes, I know they may be eaten) the tank has an undergravel filter and a heater and 2 lights. And it will be in a very quiet place if that matters.

Is it a new tank? If so, you might want to hold off on the Gourami's. They are sensitive to poor water conditions and need a mature tank. The neons are similar, they don't do well in a newly set up tank. I would get a couple guppies, put some shrimp in there, and wait a month, then put in your neons. Then, wait another month and put in 1 gourami. I doubt two gourami's would get along very well.

I'd go for a different filter, never had much luck with UGF's in the past, and having a slightly stronger filter can up your possible stocking a little bit.

Not by much. It's almost not worth it, to buy a HOB filter for a 10g. Just pick up a sponge filter.

It's a mature tank so I think I'll get neons and wait a month or so to put in the dwarf gourami. I don't know about getting a new filter, it's worked great for me; my betta and cories did fine. ( I gave the cories away, betta in 5 gallon )

I think that might be good on stocking unless I could switch the gourami for something else, like a different "main show fish" or like three smaller fish

For a main show fish, you really can't beat a Powder Blue Dwarf Gourami. But if you want 2 fish, maybe a pair of Apistogramma cacatoudies.

Omg the apistOgramma looks awesome! Are they commonly availible, like at a petco or lfs?

You could probably find them at a lfs. I doubt petco or petsmart has them though. You could always order them online, try aquabid.com . I am warning you, they will eat the shrimp. They are also delicate. What's your pH? It's usually better to keep them in a lower pH (not to say it can't be done in 8.4 water)

A pair of Rams would be another option, inctead of the gourami. They are also available at most LFS

What would the reason be for them not being in a 10g? They should do fine. Now, if someone wanted to put in a pair of kribs in there (with other fish), that would be different. Apistogramma's aren't known for being very aggressive.

i think you have enough space for a couple more neons and shrimp. you could up it to 1 dwarf gourami, 6 neons, and 10 shrimp. the neons would be more comfortable that way. you could sub the gourami for one of those dwarf cichlids that everyone else is talkin about.. like rams and apistos, but they might be hard to find. honestly, i have a number of pet stores around me and i never see dwarf cichlids. kribs once, but never rams or apistos. you definitely won't find them at petsmart or petco.

I'll sub the dwarf if I ever see a ram in my lfs.

are there any online stores that have reasonable shipping prices? everywhere i go its like 30 dollars per fish.
