Does anyone know what plants I could grow with 1-1.5wpg? i really like the look of java moss balls, sword plants and the banana plant :p

I have a whopping 0.6 wpg and have had success with Amazon sword, java fern and Cryptocoryne wendtii. They have been in my setup for a year now and althought they are slow growing, they look healthy and are doing fine. Java moss should also work for you.

Cheers mate , I hear that banana plants need a lot of lighting though sadly... but o well there are many other plants that look great i suppose :hey:

Anyone have any suggestions?

Anubias' would do well. So would Java fern, java moss and crypts. Depending on how tall your tank is, you might be able to have some val in there as well. When I had 1wpg in a 18" high tank, it did ok.

Hi Matt

Have a look through this site under LOW and Medium Low light, loads of plants you can grow with the level of light you have, it tells you the best place to position them also, very good site.

I have kept banana plants in betta bowls for years (they make an excellent resting and hiding spot, and they don't get roots that hold onto the fish poo when I try to clean) and they never had anything other than room light. They were healthy and had lots of leaves, but the banana part would slowly rot away, so I presume they couldn't live like that forever because they were obviously using their stored resources.

Still, they looked good and lived many months, so I'd say go ahead and get a few.
