I feel like such a silly willy asking all these questions. But science was not one of my best subjects in school and I really, really want to make sure I do the best job for my fish.

With that being said...

When I initially shake the vial, I get a reading of .50. Within 30 seconds of stopping shaking it goes to 1.0. By 1 minute it's at 2.0. 90 seconds we're at 4.0

A little over a minute at 8.0.

So...

Has it spiked or do I use the initial reading?

Well, I might not have been good in science but I thought I could read. :*)

Duh! If I'd read the directions correctly it said to wait five MINUTES, not five SECONDS.

Sorry for the silly question! Now I know to back off the ammonia additions! :*)
