It has been suggested that the initial planting in a new tank should be 2 bunches, of 4-6 stems each, for each 5 gallons of water. Assuming an average of 5 stems per bunch this would mean 120 plants in my 60 gallon tank.

This seems excessive to me even to outgrow the algae, in fact I wonder if there would be enough room in the substrate area of 17" x 47".

If I am right could someone give me a more realistic figure using Hygrophila difformis,
H corymbosa Siamensis, H.polysperma & H. polysperma Rosanervig?

In 32USG I have 200 stems of Rotala Rotundifolia, 50 stems of Ludwigia Arcuata, 50 stems of Didiplis Diandra and a foreground covered in Echinodorus Tenellus. One important factor is that you are investing in fast growing stems.

If you find your stems are growing well you can cut them and replant to increase the mass.

Where did you get the initial planting figures from?

Dave.
