The other day at the lfs, I was discussing possibly breeding my rams for my lfs and I mentioned that my water was awfully hard. The lfs guy mentioned driftwood and peat which I already knew about but then said that some people use oak leaves to soften water. He told me up front that he didn't know much about it and had never tried it, but suggested possibly boiling the leaves and putting them in stockings in the tank.
He told me to check it out for myself b/c he really didn't know about it. So, here I am
Has anyone heard of using oak leaves to soften water and how did you go about it?
