how many pounds of sand will i need to adequetly cover a 48"long x 12"wide aquarium? im looking for black sand and they really dont sell it in bulk, so i cant just go out and buy a lot, like pool filter sand, becuase its rather expensive.

i wont have live plants so i assume ill need the sand to be 2" deep or less.

thanks

Roughly 40 pounds will do. My lfs sells the black sand in 20 pound bags. @ was enuff to cover the bottom of one of my tanks same dimensions as yours. I bought 3 though to create slopes and valleys.

I usually stick with a lb of sand per gallon. It helps if you ever decide to through in a few live plants as well. It also look very nice! Good Luck!

Just put 25kg in a 3'x1'x1' tank, gives approx 2" which should be ok. Will let you know how it goes.
