Hello, I have discovered a new product (well new to me) called One And Only Nitrifying Bacteria H2O-PURE by Dr. Tim's Aquatics. All the reviews say it works great, it was developed by the same person who made Bio-Spira. Has anyone actually used the One and Only product and does it work. It is not all that expensive but I still don't want to throw away money.
Thanks
****UPDATE****
Ok for everyone who is interested if this product works ... It just arrived. I will be using it in two tanks a 12 US gallon and a 5 US gallon:
Tank Information:
12 Gallon - never had fish ... brand new tank, filter and gravel.
PreDose: Ammonia - 4 ppm, Nitrites - 0 ppm, Nitrates - 0 ppm, pH - 7.8, temp - 86 F (roughly 30 C)
5 Gallon - fish-in to fishless convert cycle (fish in for 1.5 months then died - jumped out of tank) ... otherwise brandnew tank, filter and gravel. It is possible that there may be some bacteria already in this tank but unlikely, had 2 very minor nitrite spikes during fishless cycle (0.25 ppm) gone the next day think the presence of nitrite was user error with test. <img src="http/www.fishforums.net/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />
Pre-Dose: Ammonia - 4 ppm, Nitrites - 0 ppm, Nitrates - 0 ppm, pH - 7.4, Temp 86 F (roughly 30 C)
Although it states you cannot overdose this product both tanks were dosed with the minimum reccommended dose (1ml/US gallon) at 3:30 pm EST.
I will continue to update, in first post, with the every 12 hour test results.
At 12 hours post dose - only change in results was a pH drop in both tanks:
12 Gallon - ammonia 4, nitrite 0, nitrate 0, pH 7.4
5 Gallon - ammonia 4, nitrite 0, nitrate 0, pH 7.2
At 24 hours post dose - no chage in any results
12 gallon ammonia 4, nitrite/nitrate 0, pH 7.4
5 gallon - ammonia 4, nitrite/nitrate 0, pH 7.2
Day 2 - 36 hours post dose (done a little early work hours change this week):
12 gallon - ammonia 2 ppm (looking good), nitrite 0ppm, nitrate 0 ppm (could be a slight nitrate reading - very dark yellow possible slight orange or maybe wishfull thinking <img src="http/www.fishforums.net/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> ) pH 7.4
5 gallon - ammonia 4 ppm, nitrate/nitrite 0 ppm pH 7.4
Day 2 - 48 hours post dose
