Anyone Had Any Succes Keeping Guppies With Bettas

I'd like to try something to keep my guppy fry in check, and maybe this is the way? I have a 10g tank that has several female guppies and a pair of fiddler crabs (who don't care about anything but finding food scraps). Are there other considerations like water hardness I should worry about?

yeah it is possible, i have 4 female betta and 5 guppy. have had male betta with guppy, one male was ok, the other not. In my opinion female fighters are best with guppies but will eat guppy fry.
