I was just wondering if anyone knows were i can get Zebra plecs. I know they are hard to get hold of and they are pretty expensive. (my lfs said theyd be abot £80)
I was just wondering if there was anyone who knows where i can get them from although i dont mind travelling a little, west midlands would be preferable. Im getting new bigger tank. Please can people confirm prices and if these conditions are right

Ph: Slightly alkaline
Hardness: Medium- hard
size: 15cm
Can be kept solitary or small groups
Min tank: ?
i got this info of a site is it right?

I was planning on putting them in a community tank with some cories and a shoal of tigers with a dwarf gorumai and my feale betta. will this work and also what tank size will i need? Thanks

Well they are practically impossible to get hold of - and if so probably in the region of £150 each. £80 (at the current time) is not possible anymore.
Due to their current situation (being on the redlist) - if you do get some - you should ideally get a breeding group of six in a species tank with the intention of breeding to prevent extinction.

I agree, if private fish hobbeists are gonna keep them then they really should try breeding to help save the very low numbers of these fish let. I have read on several websites that these fish are very shy and do not like being kept in small numbers.

Sorry about previous post press the wrong button :X

Just thought I would let you know that there is a Zebra pleco on aution on ebay

The current bidding is £100 and the reserve is £120 or "Buy It Now" at £150. The guy seems to be able to get holdof them or have a stock as he says that he has sold one previously on ebay.

Good luck.

Personally I think it's sacrilege that someone sells them as individual fish on an auction site. No fish lover would do that  You'd make damn sure they go to someone in the industry who knows exactly what they are doing and that the fish isn't going into a community tank on it's own. Money grabbing &*^%$£"

Couldnt agree more - Well said

Yeah. I was umming and ahhing over buying it but more than the cost of the plec and a dedicated species tank, I just don't think I would be able to get enough fish to start a breeding program.

Hmmm another bad suggestion by me. Didnt realise they were on the red list :( such beautiful fish.
I dont have the experience to start breeding them (or the money to buy six species) so i guess ill just have to wait till im older. Me and a mate have started planning breeding bettas and are gathering the equipment, jars and a growout tank now. Ive read alot of books breeding bettas but wouldnt mind additionally information, so if anyone has a good thread to read id be very grateful. Thanks Dan
