I've spent a little more time thinking of the last things to add to my tank and I came across Nerite snails, everything about my tank seems perfect for them...

They look lovely and grow to a managable size
I have water quality that's great for snails (rich in calcium and not too acidic)
They are said to eat algae including Black hair algae which I have a lot of at the mo!
They don't eat plants?
I guess they are shrimp freindly
I've heard a shop only 10 miles away stocks them cheaply
And I have a sealed lid so they can't escape as I've heard they do!

So, does anyone know any more about them or any reasons why I shouldn't/should keep them (more details about my tank on my signature link)

I have one and love it. He comes out at night and is all over my tank cleaning the glass. Some people say they poo a lot but I haven't found any ptoblems with my one. I have a lid but didn't find need to block the holes as he's quite happy and hasn't tried to escape. He just goes all around the tank at night cleaning. I don't see much of him at all in the day.

The only reason I didn't like mine is because it laid eggs all over the place. I have black rocks so it looked terrible. Other than that, they were great!

love mine, he does a fantastic job cleaning the glass, much better than the other snails i have
my rams horn snails are just decimating my plants lol
thinking of rehoming those guys

Well thanks for the comments guys, I've decided to go for one and if it does well I may get another too. All I have to do now is persuade my Dad to drive 22 miles to Dartford, unless anyone knows any other shops closer to Billericay :D

closer to billericay???
YES

1. pets at home (rochford airport) --- these guys definately sell zebra's
2. swallow aquatics (dunno if they sell them)
3. there's a small petshop in wickford (i forget the name, but it's by the station) likewise... dunno if they sell them...

hope this helps

Swallows aquatics don't
Pet at home I'll have to ring, but I try to avoid buying from them!
