I've got a Zebra danio that now has it's mouth stuck open and seems not to be able to close it or eat food. It's been this way for about a week or more but I kept waiting for it to get better - assuming it was some sort of short term damage.

Looking at it today, it's obvious that it's losing weight fast. It once was nice and plump and is now looking very thin and I'm guessing it nothing changes, it will lose its fight in the next few days.

When feeding the fish this morning, the zebra was darting around the top of the tank in a frenzy trying to eat but it's didn't seem to get anything at all. It even seemed to be out of control... it was splashing around at the top in parts of the tank that had no food.

Any advice? What could be wrong?

can u have a look in its mouth even if u have to take it out of tank for a few seconds to see if something is lodged in the mouth or throat

Guess I could try.. not seen anything from a distance though.

Meant to add stats (i know it will come up)

tank - 120 x 30 x 45 cm
fish - 6 zebra danio / 2 cooli loach / 2 harlquin rasbora / 2 neon tetra / 1 algea eater / 4 sparkling gourami

amonia - 0
nitrite - 0
nitrate - 10

I've lost fish to open mouths harlequins and nobody really knows what it is.
Open mouth can mean something stuck in the mouth, sores or ulcers in the mouth, fish tb, to dislocated jaw.
What does it look like when your fish go the toilet.
Check the anus of the fish to make sure its not enlarged or red and inflamed.
Any signs of flicking and rubbing.

When I got home last night I opened the lid to feed the fish and was shocked to see that the zebra had somehow jumped out of the water, got on top of the drip tray and then died. There are small gaps at each end of the drip tray but I found the fish right in the middle.

It did seem to be swimming in a frantic manner as I mentioned earlier.

Shame. Sure it's not a pleasant way to go.

Bless Him R.I.P.
Fish can dart when there going to die.
Just keep an eye on other fish for flicking and rubbing.
Is it possible to fill the holes with filter floss.
