Dude who called me a dude, I am a dudette lol. I have seen clowns in far smaller nano's (does it matter if i is round or square?), so thank you for your opinion but they will stay in there for the time being.
Yes it is easy to maintain to the person who asked the question - just ditch the artificuial rock that you get in the kit.

that was a really stupid arguement. U have seen clowns in smaller therefore its right? no it means whoever is keeping them is equally wrong. Go post in the marine section and see what happens. IGNORENT.

I cant see the point in this petty conflict - if you cant say anything nice dont bother replying! And learn to spell!!

Sweetie as you failed to make a logical argument or point I shall maintain the high ground on this one. I enjoy all my fish, and one could argue that ALL fish keeping was unethical as in reallity none of them swim/live/mate in glass boxes in there natural environment. Thank you for taking the time to care and comment.

30l is around what 7gal? common sense says no, but if u insist.

one for our own very site http://www.fishforums.net/content/Saltwate...aris-Clownfish/

look at the end of the day i can keep going. There are loads of sites. And i am not telling you guys this to prove u wrong, i am telling you cos if your going to take a fish from the ocean u should house it in something that is going to be suitable. A 7gal is not. Not for 2, i dont even think for one. Please reconsider on the home of these fish.

lol, "IGNORENT"!

Honestly, if the water quality is good, the fish is healthy and thriving, what is so wrong about keeping a clownfish in the small tank?
Very nice setup Samphire! Looks like it's thriving!

U guys r so far stuck up on what u think, read the articles.
I understand what u guys r saying bout water quality and that, but the fact of the matter is, they shouldnt be in something so small.

I am done with this, do what u want. All your bio orbs look hidious hahahaha i am just joking, they look great.

Can we stop this stupid argument. It is there choice to put the clownfish in that tank and it's their fault if they get health related issues not yours just take the higher ground and leave it Ehudd. And not all of us are stuck up in what we think.
But you could have had this argument in a more civilised way, but for the fishes wellfare yes I have to agree with Ehudd, you should probably be thinking of getting them a bigger tank for the clownfish.

Now back to posting BiOrb pics!

Damn I wasn't going to post here...

I don’t like the way Ehudd has posted at all but I do completely agree with him.

A 30l tank is not suitable for 1 clown fish and certainly not for a pair. If you read any halfway decent care advise about them you will see the same thing. For those that are saying "if the water quality is ok then it is fine" here is the argument against that.

1) 30L is not a large enough water volume to dilute any problems. If you don’t keep on top of maintenance and topping up with RO water your PH and SG are going to swing all over the place.
2) 30L is not a large enough space for 1 clown fish full stop (in terms or territory) and is definitely not enough for two.
3) The shape of the Bio-Orb severely limits the gas exchange on the water surface (due to very small surface area), there for you are liable to get a build up of CO2 and less O2 in the water (which also effects PH and water hardness).
4) I could keep a clown fish in a coke bottle and with the right filter keep "the water quality fine", doesn’t mean that I should and that the fish is going to be healthy.

I had a pair of clowns in my 58l nano and even that I feel is too small (one of the reasons I added a 10g fuge to the tank). One of them sadly got caught by a hitchhiking crab and eaten but had it not I would have rehomed him anyway because a 58l square tank is not enough space (in terms of territory) for two clowns, a 30l round tank is definitely not.

Bio-orbs in general are very pretty and for a few small (very small) fish they are ok. For coldwater fish (ie goldfish), marine fish (except maybe some of the smaller gobies) and tropical fish (over an inch or two big) they are in my opinion just not suitable due to the rubbish surface area on the water (which is a VERY important factory and the reason why you can stock more in a square shaped tank then a fishbowl shaped one which has the same water volume).

The argument that "its unethical to keep fish full stop because even the biggest tank is not as big as an ocean or lake" is kind to put it bluntly a bit stupid (not aiming this personally btw so don’t take offense). If you feel that way about it you shouldn't be keeping fish. There is a difference between keeping a fish in a tank with adequate space for territory and keeping it in something so small and unsuitable that it is going to severely damage their life span and quality of life.

Nice! Interesting to see how you've done that, keeping the bubble tube in etc. Does the filtration work adequately for you? DUH stupid question I guess

A friend of mine got this 30L set up running superbly...highly modified I have to say

sadly she's now dismantled it as she felt the limitaitions were too great and moved on to yet another larger marine set up.

It's still fantastic to think she got all that in to a 30L biorb :good:

Hi Jennybugs

What type of light is that on your friends orb?

Sean
