Hey guys! Guess what I found in my filter today?! Guppy fry!! I'm so excited and elated! But here's the sad part: My female had her babies last night and my tank has no hiding spots what-so-ever for fry so most of them probably got eaten by my male and goldfish (yes, I know tropical and cold water fish don't mix, that's why I moved my goldfish out today :p) and then the rest had to of been sucked up into the filter, the fry I found was just one, single, baby just swimming around in my filter; happy as can be. I feel so bad, because I had done a WC too so any remaining fry, if there had been any is now down our drain  I feel like It's my fault and that if I had only stayed up last night, then maybe I could have caught her in the process. But, oh well, it's life, right? But i'm still glad that I have just the one. And I bet you guys already know what I'm gonna name it lol Lucky. It's a-given here :p I'll try to get some pics if he's not too tiny for the camera to catch, but i'll definitely post some pics of his current home. Any suggestions, advice, wisdom, etc. would be lovely. <3 Thanks!

It is amazing what those little fry can survive sometimes. A simmilar thing happened to me a few years back when I was breeding guppies, the fry came in the middle of the night when I was sleeping, woke the next day and realized what had happened, thought I had lost them all and somehow 5 of them managed to survive in the filter for a week before I realized they were there!

As for advise, it has been a while since I have reared fry, or any fish for that matter, but I used to feed mine liquid fry food and supplemented with egg yolk. I am sure things have changed since I last did this (roughly 10 years since I have breed fish, 4 years since my last tank) but I am sure the basic concept is the same.

Good luck with him.

Congrats on your find :good:

Feed your fry on tiny crushed flakes it'll do fine :)

Where have you got it at the moment?

Thanks everyone! I sure hope he lives though, so I'm gonna be keeping a really close watch on him. I bought some Brine Shrimp cultivating packets and I'm currently just waiting for those to hatch, but I'll feed him the crushed flakes for now, since there's nothing else for him. I used to have him in a little 1/2 gallon Betta tank, but I didn't have enough plug-ins for three heaters ( his, his parents, and the BBS) so I decided it was just best to put him in with my adults, so now he's in a breeding net in their tank and doing good, and he is adorable! lol But there's one problem; I just noticed last night that my two adult guppies had started flashing D: Can I use salt in the tank while the fry is in there, or will it hurt him? The last thing I want to do is hurt him at all, but I also don't want him to get whatever his parents have. Also, what's a good temperature to keep the tank while the fry is in it? Thanks!

You need to first figure out what is wrong with the adults. Salt can be an effective treatment for whitespot and a very few other things, but until you have a decent diagnosis, treatments can cause more harm than good. Please try to fully describe your symptoms in a post in the tropical emergencies area of the forum. There are people there who can help immensely when it comes to diagnosis and treatments.
