So I need a new tank for my oscar, the plan is to keep upgrading as he grows, rather then buying one big tank outright. So Merlins a couple of inches long and its time to move from his 20g quarantine tank to a larger tank.

I found this on ebay, this'd suit him for 6-8 months right? Any comments on the filter? and the chance of the tank leaking?

It looks like it'd be okay...

The reason for upgrading multiple times is simple. ebay often has great sized tanks at affordable prices and its cheaper to upgrade as they come up rather then to spend $500+ in one go, plus I get extra tanks out of the bargain to.

So opinions on the tank? The aim is to upgrade to a 125-150g tank by the time he's 12 inches, if nothing comes up on ebay, will give up my Vietnam trip my parents are giving me for Christmas and buy a brand new tank instead.

looks ok to me, that'd do him up to around 10" comfortably. oscars grow very fast in the first year until they get to roughly that size thn growth slows right down but they never stop growing, it just takes them a good 10 years or so to grow the last 3/4"

Yah from what I've read her wont get to 10-12"for at least another 10 months, okies will have a go at bidding then, as he does need to move out of the quarantine tank soon now he's got a clean bill of health.

One other question LOL, I've always liked the look of silver dollars and noticed their compatible with oscars, except they generally need to be introduced when the oscars still young?

If I got the above tank could I get 3-4 2 inch silver dollars to go with him? then make sure his final tank is at the higher end of 125-150g? I just measured him and hes 4cm from nose to tail so about 1 and a half inches long...

would possibly be OK, depends on the growth rate of SD's compared to oscars, if he's gonna grow faster than them they might end up as dinner. SD's are quick growers but i don't know if they are quick enough.

if you get them as big as you possibly can so he grows up around them i think it'd be ok.
