The "plan" is 2 Oscars 1 Plec and 2 Red Severums but if the severums dont work then they will be returned and replaced with clown loaches further down the line if i find some larg enough if that time comes or silver dollars.

I know severums do work with oscars but depends alot on the individual fish so wait and see kinda deal. Getting them tomorrow before work.

yay congrats on finishing the cycle.

my god it tries your patients but knowing its done now is great and that fish will benefit from it.

Dreading the Large water change later getting it out is ok its getting it back in think i need to go buy a new black dustbin

hose pipe ;)

this will definately be your friend for water changes on a big tank, i do all of mine with a hose pipe.

usually start it going as a siphon then while it's running do a bit of gravel vaccing with a siphon into a water drum, then when i've emptied what i want out i dump dechlor straight into the tank and turn the tap on the hose and let it re-fill :D

i take it thats for this big change not for one with fish in or do you do that for weekly changes too? i was thinking a small pond pump attached to some hose to pump water already treated and at correct temp in a dustbin back into tank for weekly changes.

no i do that for my weekly water changes. :good:

virtually everyone who has big tanks does the same thing, for normal weekly changes of 30% or there abouts you can use cold water straight from the tap without an adverse effects, temp will only drop 2oC, fish can cope with that, it's no worse than it raining in the wild!

Ah cool i was worried that it would be too harsh a change in water temp water out our cold tap is extremely cold dont have mixer tap in kitchen, would simply attache straight to the spare washing machine valve we have.

and the beauty is, if the hose it attached to the tap to do a big water change you just turn the tap on slowly and make sure the heater is plugged in, because you don't have to activley do anything while the tank is re-filling it doesn't matter if it takes an hour or so and you can sit and watch telly or whatever while it's re-filling. :good:
