hi i have 6 yellow labs and have just noticed today that only one has yellow specks on his tail and the other 5 don't have them, is the one with specs a male and if so am i looking possibly at 5 females and one male.

ive also noticed some of them to be getting big bellies, could they be getting ready to lay eggs my understanding do they lay them then get fertilized then keep them in their mouths?

Im not familiar with the specks, but males have more black on their fins and they have a black vertical stripes on their eyes. Yes, they in fact are mouth brooders. They are fun to breed too.

It's nearly impossible to accurately sex labs without observing them spawn to venting them. If you spend time breeding them, you can get pretty good at picking the males out, but venting is more accurate. :good:

Here's a link on several breeding articles, including how to vent: Breeding Center
