Hello all, I posted in the New World Cichlid forums asking for advice on what would be good, however I want to my LFS and came across Labido Cichlids, which are from what I unerstand from Lake Malawi.

Im very interested in keeping Cichlids, would yellow labido's do fine in a Rekord 70? How hardy are these fish? I sometimes let water changes slip (no longer than 2weeks). My tank is however well established and i'd rehome the community fish in there now.

I also understand that they require many rocks and maybe java fern. Will I be able to use gravel not sand? As ive heard sand can be a pain in the behind to maintain + clean, and just generally annoying.

Thanks for reading! :good:

OR if anybody has a better idea of cichlid to keep then feel free to inform :D

Labidochromis Caeruleus require a minimum of 180 litres as do all other african cichlids. Sorry to bring this news but you need a large tank.

Hope this helps

Regards

the rams i have got dont grow big so dont imagine theyed need a really large tank theyre fairly colourfull and have the same type of shape as some cilchilds just smaller.guess it depends what else you'd want with it

It would seem after reading all those compatible fish on that cichlid-forum website that I could have a pair of most things no bigger than 6" really.

I like the look of Convict Cichlids. How sensative are these to water conditions ? I haven't always been brilliant at matching the waterchange temperature to that of the water in the tank. However I do usually do water changes at least every 2weeks if not sooner.

Also, could I keep 2 males together as from reading about these it seems they like to breed!

I'd go read over in the south american section. Convicts are a S.A. fish and I don't know much about them. I don't think it's wise to keep 2 males together, but don't quote me on that.
